So, What’s New With You?

I ran into a friend that I hadn’t seen since last March the other day. He asked, “So, what’s new with you?”

I didn’t really know where to start… let’s see… there is this thing that we’ve been working on… A lot can happen quickly when you think about it.

That is kind of like what I am thinking as I sat down to write this entry. Let’s see… so what is new with YO! since I last wrote a journal entry 2 months ago. While I have been silent and not contributing to the YO! story on these pages, I did want to write down a few thoughts and share a few points before January turns into February.

So where to start? How about with the fact that we have increased our head count by 50% since my last blog entry? Or perhaps with the somewhat startling realization that since I last wrote to you, we have leased new office space in our home in Maple Ridge (Canada), opened a satellite office in Dhaka (Bangladesh), and will be moving any day now into a 3x larger office in Khulna (also Bangladesh)?

Maybe I should write about how we’ve had several trips back and forth to Silicon Valley, Las Vegas, Copenhagen, Mexico, and more locales… talking with potential partners about our vision for YO! and how they might get involved?

Maybe I should write about our field testing at Khulna University or KUET (Khulna University of Engineering & Technology) or at conference centers, or even at 30,000 feet above the air on an in-flight WiFi network?

I am sure some of you would be fascinated to learn about some of our design modifications and about what we think would make for better experience [short answer, we’re only guessing until we get more feedback.]

Or maybe I should document the trials and tribulations of having things work great one week, then poorly the next, then great again, then poorly, and great once more as we work through bugs and unforeseen complexities of getting everything ready for launch?

Or how about our application and response to Facebook’s request for people like us to rise up to the Interent.org Innovation Challenge to come up with a better way to connect and impact the lives of women, students, farmers, and migrant workers in India?

Or how about the behind-the-scene effort it has taken to translate YO! and this website into Spanish, Bangla, and Mandarin Chinese?

Each of these may (and should) become posts on their own.

Right… I will get right on that one.

Oh… I almost forgot, we are also really, really close to our public beta launch. As in, “just a day or two away close”. Yep.

That too would be a doozy of a post.

[Editor’s Note: Until we get into our new office, we have to visit the local coffee shop just to turn around. In the photo above, you can see some of our Maple Ridge team descending on the poor barrista in advance of our new office tour. Some of us are pretty excited.]
