YO! Mobile App Released in Bangladesh

New technology makes it possible to share and connect without the internet

DHAKA, BANGLADESH & VANCOUVER, CANADA – FEBRUARY 9TH, 2015 – Left of the Dot Media Inc., at Digital World 2015, is pleased to announce the release of their new mobile app YO!, now available in open beta for all Android devices. YO! offers a new way for smartphone users to share and connect by sending files, videos, pictures, messages, and even other apps, peer-to-peer over WiFi, without the need to connect via the Internet.

The patent-pending technology behind YO! – which is now available in Bangla, English, and Spanish languages – was initially developed as a simple solution to the slow and inefficient internet connectivity problems faced in the company’s Bangladesh office. Poor bandwidth and slow speeds made it impossible for multiple employees to access the Internet and share files concurrently. To alleviate this problem and eliminate the need for reliance on an Internet connection, YO! was created.

“Our goal is to connect every person on the planet, so it makes sense for us to start in Bangladesh where the idea came to life,” says John Lyotier, Co-Founder and CMO, Left of the Dot Media. “By the end of this year there will be more mobile devices than people. Yet two-thirds of the world’s population, and the majority of Bangladeshi, do not have access to reliable or affordable Internet connectivity. YO! offers a free way for people to share media and connect with those that matter most.”

“We built YO! because we had a pain we needed to solve,” states Rakibul Islam, Khulna resident, CEO of W3Engineers, and Managing Director for Left of the Dot in Bangladesh. “Here, data costs and connection speeds make it unrealistic for people to use the Internet to communicate. We are pleased to launch the app here first.”

YO!’s ability to solve communication problems doesn’t just include the needs of users. In the past six years alone, more than $1 trillion US has been invested by mobile operators around the globe. YO! helps telecom carriers reduce overall network traffic and reduces the need for further investment in expensive infrastructure. YO! provides the ability to generate and distribute premium content, strengthen customer relationships, and increase consumer loyalty in a time where differentiation amongst carriers is crucial.

YO! is launching at the Digital World 2015 conference in Dhaka, Bangladesh from February 9-12  Mobile Innovation Zone, Stall 22) and at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain from March 2-5, 2015 (Hall 8.0, booth F08).

About YO! ™ and YO.com™

YO! is a free mobile app from YO.com and Left of the Dot Media that empowers users to share and connect without the Internet. YO! recognizes that mobile users around the world have incredibly smart devices capable of producing and viewing amazing content, yet these same users have difficulty in sharing or accessing this content as data transmission over standard networks and the Internet is just too slow. This problem is exacerbated in developing markets where it is just too expensive to share. YO! lets people share photos, videos, apps, and messages across a hyperlocal network at high speeds for free. Learn more at: http://www.yo.com.
